Steve Chandler

Race Squad Coach

Background

I started skiing in 1978 and went on my first ski holiday to Aviemore in Scotland in 1981.

Achievements

Beating Ronan Columb to win the under 16s championship is a highlight for me. I also represented Ireland at Dry Slope races in Northern Ireland, Scotland and England.

Coaching Experience

I was a ski instructor with Schischule Total in Ehrwald, Austria during the 1990/91 season and I was the first person from the Ski Club of Ireland to gain the Austrian Anwärter Ski Instructor qualification.

I became manager and coach of the Ski Club and Ireland team in 1993 and coached and managed the teams for 12 years on the dry slope circuit.  I also managed and coached at snow training camps and races in Andorra, Austria, France, Iceland and Italy. During this period our racers won all of the dry slope trophies available on numerous occasions and greatly improved their snow points. The highlight for me was the team wining all of the major trophies at the prestigious British Championships in 2000. I’m currently coaching the Minis on Saturday mornings at the Ski Club of Ireland.

Favourite Skier

Favourite ski racers at the moment are Ted the Shred and ALS. Bodie Miller is a legend for his dynamic skiing but was also generous in meeting with our young racers at a training camp in Westendorf.
